Emsick Wins Pair of Jr. Olympic Golds

Buffalo, N.Y. - Abby Emsick of Council Bluffs led Nebraska
Association athletes through the first four days of the 34th
annual USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics
championship meet with a pair of gold medal performances.

Emsick won the Young Women's (ages 17-18) discus with a throw of 148 feet, 1 inch and
the shot put with a heave of 43-73/4. Three other Nebraska Association athletes also have
won national championships in the meet at the State University of New York at Buffalo
track and field complex.

Melanie Uher of Wilber and Michaela Wallerstedt of Omaha also won gold medals. Uher
won the Intermediate Girls (15-16) discus with a toss of 143-3. Wallerstedt won the Youth
Girls (13-14) shot put with a throw of 47-21/4 and finished sixth in the discus by throwing
105-7.

Youth Boys - Pole vault: 2, Kyle Murphy, Omaha, 10-6. Shot put: 4, James Septak,

Youth Girls (13-14) - 3,000: 3, Meredith Snow, Omaha, 10:48.05. Shot: 1, Michaela
Wallerstedt, Omaha, 47-21/4. Discus: 6, Wallerstedt, 105-7.


Intermediate Boys - Javelin: 2, Ben Francis, Wilber, 180-11. Pole vault: 8, tie, Gable

Intermediate Girls - Heptathlon: 2, Ashley Selig, Lincoln, 4,436 points. Shot put: 4,
